Congratulations on your decision to apply to be an International Student of the Grande Prairie Public School Division. 

The application process is a multi-step process and is only complete when all of the steps are finished. AFTER all documents and tuition is received, applicants are responsible to complete the necessary paperwork with the Government of Canada to receive a student visa.

Application Checklist

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare the following documents:

  • School/academic records from the past two years translated into English (copies must have an official school stamp or seal)
  • Letter of recommendation from the current Teacher or Principal (translated into English)
  • Letter written by the student explaining his/her goals for duration of stay.
    This could include:
    • What made them decide to choose the International Education Program.
    • What they hope to obtain from their time with The Grande Prairie Public School Division.
  • Copy of the student's passport picture page.
  • Copy of student's immunization records. This is required and will be kept in the student's file.
  • Custodianship documents, if the student is under 18 years of age (if the parent is appointing custodianship in Canada).
  • Student grade transcript showing English as a course of study and an International Test of English Proficiency Exam result.

Step 3

Include the following:

  • $250 CDN Non-refundable application fee which can be paid by: bank draft, money order (payable to The Grande Prairie Public School Division) or Wire Transfer

Step 4

  • E-mail the application form(s) and all supporting documents to: inted@gppsd.ab.ca
    Please submit the application form as a PDF document

Step 5

You will be notified within 24 hours of receipt of all required documents whether the application has been accepted.

Once accepted, you will required to pay full tuition and health insurance as outlined below:

  • $12,000 CAD Tuition for Full Year (10 months)
  • $500 International Student Medical Insurance (10 months)
    • We provide insurance coverage through StudyInsuredThrough their website, you can:
      • Learn what a claim is and how to submit it, find the forms you need, and use their handy online tool to submit your claim.
      • Use their handy search tool to locate a direct-pay health facility near you.
      • Find a doctor, learn what to do in an emergency, understand the insurance terms on your policy, and much more!

An official Letter of Acceptance will be issued once the application fee, tuition, and medical insurance have been paid in full.

Both payments are to be completed following the same pattern as above in Step 3.

Step 6

Upon receipt of the Letter of Acceptance from The Grande Prairie Public School Division, the student must apply for a study permit at the nearest Canadian Embassy/Consulate.

Step 7

With all paperwork completed, a study permit, and everything in order, the student is now ready to arrange transportation to Grande Prairie and begin the experience of a lifetime!

Step 8

The Division Office will notify the school, the International Student and their parent, when the application has been approved and all criteria have been met. Now registration for school can commence. The local guardian must complete the student registration for the International Student. A link will be sent to the guardian to connect to our online registration system.

Documents that will be required for completing the registration:

  • Proof of age and legal name and immigration documentation: child’s birth certificate, passport and immigration documentation
  • Proof of guardians residential address: such as a utility bill, rental agreement, bill of sale, municipal or federal correspondence.
  • Completed copy of the Custodianship Declaration Form
  • Student grade transcript showing English as a course of study and an International Test of English Proficiency Exam result.
