French Immersion

French immersion is a successful approach to second language learning due to its unique learning environment. French is the language of instruction for several or all subjects other than English Language Arts.

Grande Prairie Public School Division offers a comprehensive French Immersion program at École Montrose (School of Choice) and Charles Spencer High School (Program of Choice).

No, students and families do not need to know French to have their children enter Early French Immersion. 

For Early French Immersion at École Montrose, teachers and school administrators work alongside your family so every student can succeed. There are typically two entry points for students, where no experience with French is necessary:

  • Preschool, Kindergarten or Grade 1
  • Late Entry French Immersion begins for students entering Grade 5

High School French Immersion is a Program of Choice offered at Charles Spencer High School for our Grade 9-12 students.

  • Students new to Grande Prairie Public School Division with previous French Immersion experience may register directly into the French Immersion program at any grade after a brief consultation with their school Principal or Academic Adviser.
