Athletics

A Multi-sport Academy Grades 4 - 8

Students will again be able to join Athletics for a multi-sport approach to their athletic development.

Students in grades 4- 6 will move through a variety of activities throughout the year. They will be developing different skills through a variety of experiences. A physical education specialist will provide instruction for most activities and where appropriate, professional coaching will accompany some sports.

Students in grades 7 and 8 will be provided sport-specific coaching in a variety of sports throughout the year. Students will experience different activities and be able to develop their skills in some of our core sports; Volleyball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Racquet Sports, Swimming.

Athletics

A Multi-sport Academy  High School Grades 9 - 12

The Academy Athletics is designed to meet the needs of athletes looking to develop their physical skills through a variety of sport experiences and an individualized approach to training.

Grade 9 Learn to Train: Students will be able to select Academy Athletics as an Elective. In the introductory component to the program, students are provided opportunities and instruction on learning how to build knowledge and physical literacy involved in training and fitness as an athlete.

Tuition for the Grade 9 Academy Athletics program will be determined shortly. Fees will cover the cost of specialist training and transportation to offsite facilities.

Grade 10-12: (Train to Train, Train to Compete) Athletes will engage in a yearlong program (1 block each semester) that focuses on a personal training program tailored to the specific needs of the student athlete. As a foundation to support their growth and development, the following fundamentals will be utilized for Academy Athletics 10-20-30 (Canadian Sport for Life- Long Term Athlete Development):

  3. Speed
  4. Skill
  5. Flexibility
  6. Structure/Stature
  7. Schooling
  8. Psychology
  9. Healthy Eating
  10. Socio-Culture/Leadership

Students will receive a minimum of 10 credits per year, some of which will include Physical Education and CALM 20.

Tuition for Grade 10-12 program will be determined. Fees will cover the cost of specialist training and transportation to offsite facilities.

Tuesday/Thursday 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Transportation provided both ways

Academy Grade 4-6 Athletics West Schools - Derek Taylor Public School, GP Christian School and Isabel Campbell Public School
Monday/Wednesday 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Transportation provided both ways

Academy Athletics Grade 7-8: Monday/Wednesday 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Parents drop off and bus pick up.
