Corporal Gavin Ool Honoured with ASBA Friends of Education Award

The Grande Prairie Public School Division (GPPSD) is proud to celebrate Corporal Gavin Ool, Program Lead of the Grande Prairie RCMP School Resource Officer Program, as the recipient of the Zone 1 Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) 2025 Friends of Education Award.
The Friends of Education Award recognizes individuals or organizations who demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing education and building partnerships that positively impact students, families, and communities.
“He is dedicated to supporting youth and is intentional about building meaningful relationships with students, particularly in our high schools,” said Trustee Ray Buziak. “He is known by name in our schools because of his daily efforts to connect with young people. He has also developed strong partnerships with administrators, staff, and parents, making him a trusted and valued resource in education.”
His presene at school events and his genuine support for students have created a positive and safe school environment. Beyond day-to-day interactions, he has played a key role in shaping a positive narrative about the role of law enforcement in the community.
“We are proud to recognize Cpl. Ool for his leadership and the difference he continues to make for students and families across our division,” said GPPSD Superintendent Sandy McDonald. ”This award reflects the very best of our partnership and highlights the impact of a strong School Resource Officer program.”
