In addition to the outstanding educational opportunities that exist in our neighbourhood schools, the following opportunities and program supports exist:
Child Care Opportunites
Exists in a number of sites through a series of partnerships between GPPSD and outside agencies.
Band, Orchestra, Choir and Guitar are offered as options from grades 5-12 at all sites (dependant upon student interest).
Opportunities are available for students in grades 10-12 through partnerships with Grande Prairie Regional College and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).
First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) Program
Our mission is ALL students and staff of Grande Prairie Public School District have the opportunity to learn and gain a better understanding and respect for Indigenous peoples' histories, cultures, languages and philosophies. We are focused on ensuring that our learners have the supports in place that are required for school success.
French Immersion Programming
Currently offered at two sites: Ecole Montrose - Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 including Late Entry French Immersion for students entering Grade 5; and Charles Spencer High School - Grades 9-12.
The Grande Prairie Public School District offers programming for students who by virtue of advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity require a supportive learning environment and effective programming options to meet their diverse needs.
Grande Prairie Christian School (K-9)
Provides families the opportunity to have their children educated from a Biblical worldview. The Grande Prairie Christian School nurtures and helps guide the students on their educational, physical and spiritual journeys.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Programming
Available at Grande Prairie Composite High School. General information on the benefits of IB programming can be found at http://www.ibo.org . IB programming aims to develop knowledgeable, inquiring and caring young people who are motivated to succeed in a global economy. Specific details on the IB program at Grande Prairie Composite High school can be accessed through their individual school website.
GPPSD offers opportunities for international students to come live and study in Grande Prairie.
Preschool to Grade 6 at Parkside Montessori.
Peace Collaborative Services (PCS)
The PCS team serves Grande Prairie and area with specialized learning supports and services for our students and families.
Opportunities for students choosing French Immersion, Inclusive or Regular programming exists in a number of sites.
GPPSD recognizes that if a child is to be a successful reader, there are specific developmental milestones they must progress through by the end of Grade 3.
Second Language Programming
Students in GPPSD are expanding their horizons through language learning in English, French, Spanish and German. They are proud to be bilingual and are using these skills to travel, to access a greater variety of employment opportunities and to communicate with a greater number of individuals. GPPSD offers French Immersion programming and French as a Second Language programming from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Other languages are offered at some sites from Grade 7-12.
