Welcome to the Avondale School web page! My name is Kristina Black, and I am the Principal of Avondale School.
Avondale School is a K-6 Elementary School in Grande Prairie, Alberta. This coming year, we anticipate a school population of approximately 120 students and 20 staff members. We reside in one of Grande Prairie's most established neighbourhoods, within walking distance of venues and attractions including the Grande Prairie Public Library, Muskoseepi Park, Centre 2000, and Grande Prairie Regional College.
Avondale School is proud to be a diverse community of learners. At Avondale, our primary goals are to engage and motivate our students to take ownership of their learning and to prepare them to become responsible citizens. We prioritize strong relationships with our students and our community This priority enables us to build a community where all students and their families feel safe, welcome, and connected. These relationships are the foundation of our learning journey.
This past year, we partnered with a number of community stakeholders to enhance the educational experience of students. These partnerships included but were not limited to the Elk's (hosts of our annual Turkey Dinner), Cobb's Bread (donating bread to our Snack Program once a week), Big Brothers and Sisters, the Grande Prairie Centre for Newcomers, Parent Link, and Frontier College (in-school reading tutoring). We are excited to continue these partnerships and build more in the 2020-21 school year.
We welcome parents as our partners at the school. One great way to get involved is through joining our School Council. The Avondale School Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend! Our meetings this year will be held virtually until further notice.

We are looking forward to a wonderful upcoming school year!
