Peace Collaborative Services
Supporting Student Success
Mental Health Services

For the Grande Prairie Public School Division, Grande Prairie and Area Catholic School District and Peace Wapiti School Divisions, as well as Holy Family Catholic and Northern Gateway schools in Valleyview, the Peace Collaborative Service funds Alberta Health Services, Addiction & Mental Health to provide services to support the needs of students with behavioural, emotional, social, or mental health challenges that impact their own learning and the teaching and learning of other students.  These Mental Health Therapists are regulated professionals with the Alberta College of Social Workers, and they provide support to students, families, and school staff in various ways:

  • Assessment, counselling and referral where warranted
  • Classroom observations designed in consultation with the teacher(s) and administrator(s)
  • Meetings with parents, students, teachers and administrators to determine the needs of a student or group of students
  • Consultation and problem solving strategies at student team meetings as requested
  • Professional development workshops to increase capacity of school staff to recognize, understand and manage emotional, behavioural or mental health issues in the classroom
  • Identify, promote, and facilitate the implementation of resources that support learning teams
