Grande Prairie, AB, November 17, 2021 – On November 1, 2021, United Way Alberta Northwest launched their Period Promise Campaign to help end 'period poverty,' which is when an individual cannot afford period products. Period poverty impacts girls and women in the community and our schools.

We are proud to announce our Division has joined with United Way Alberta Northwest to bring two barrier-free dispensers and commercial grade products to two schools: Grande Prairie Composite Highschool and Crystal Park School. The dispensers and products were provided by a generous donation made by the Swan City Rotary Club of Grande Prairie. Thank you to the Rotary Club.

This project allows our Division to further support our students by removing barriers that can lead to greater student participation in school and their communities. It is a further commitment to ensuring 'Every Student Succeeds.'

Dispense units with their commercial-grade products will be installed in the schools in the near future. Students and parents will be notified of the installments and the program through various internal school communication.

How you can help

The United Way Alberta Northwest's Period Promise Campaign has a goal of raising $20,000 before the end of the 2021/22 school year - allowing them to secure dispensers and products for five local schools.
