We did it; we did it! The District's Treble Choir received a superior rating and were also awarded first place for their class at the annual Alberta Provincial Music Festival in Edmonton.
The Choir were in Class 915, which is for smaller ensembles of 8-12 singers. They competed against groups from Cardston all the way up to Yellowknife. They were also accompanied on piano by Andrew Yu, a grade 11 student from Charles Spencer High School.
The Treble Choir, along with the GPPSD Concert Choir had received recommendations to attend the annual Alberta Provincial Music Festival in Edmonton based on their performance at the local music festival in April.
Their first performance was last Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the McDougall United Church in Edmonton, where they also received a superior rating from adjudicator Mark Hafso, a past GPPSD Choral Music teacher in the 70s.
"The students were very proud of their performance on Wednesday. One of them said they got chills about five times while singing on stage, and I loved that because that’s really why we make music!" said, Lyndsey Mitchell, music teacher at Charles Spencer High School.
