Thanks very much to all stakeholders for another successful year of learning in the Grande Prairie Public School District.
On April 1, 2018, amendments to Section 45.1 of the School Act came into force, requiring all publicly funded school authorities to establish a welcoming, caring and respectful policy. In Grande Prairie Public, our work on this topic was initiated in the 2015-2016 school year with the establishment of Board Policy and District Administrative Procedures to guide and support our staff practice to be a school district that provides all students with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe school environment. I am proud to share that our day to day practice to support students will not change as a result of Bill 24: An Act to Support Gay Straight Alliances and that only minor changes to our Policy and Procedures were required to meet the legislative expectations.
Bill 24 identifies the minimum legislated requirements under Section 45.1 (including Section 16.1) of the School Act. That document is available online at https://education.alberta.ca/media/3704447/bill-24-web_legreqs.pdf.
The compliant GPPSD Policies and Procedures are posted publicly accessible sections of our website maintained by or on behalf of the school authority. Board Policy is available under the Board tab on our website and our Administrative Procedures can be accessed under the District tab. Specifically, our District’s relevant Policy and Procedures are linked below:

*Note: Board Policy 20 requires a Board Motion for approval. The policy posted online is in draft format and will be presented for formal approval at the first Board meeting of the 2018-2019 school year.
