Frequently Asked Questions

What support services are offered for students attending Parkside School?

There are several programs and supports available to students.  For more information look under Programs and Services Tab.

I don't speak French!  What can I do to help my child?

Many parents either have a limited background in French or do not speak the language at all. If this is the case, please don't feel alarmed. By far, the most important factor in your child's progress is the encouragment and positive support your are able to give your child.  Encourage your children to be responsible and organized.  With regard to specific difficulties, have your child explain the problem in your language and then offer them some help with the basic concepts.

  • Show your child that you are committed to the program
  • Encourage your child and show an interest in what he or she is learning
  • Find ways to expose your child to French or use French outside of school time
  • Borrow French books from the public library
  • Listen to music by French artists
  • Watch some French television programs
  • Visit French communities

Concentrate on enriching your child's first language as well.  Read aloud to your child every day.  This will develop your child's knowledge and vocabulary, as well as instilling an important love of language and literature.  By fostering a love of books and motivating your child, you will lay the ground work for lifelong learning in French, English and any other language.
