Energy from the Sun: Design a Solar Cooker and Start CookingWith this interactive resource from The Learning Federation, students can design a solar cooker to cook food. The design features of the cooker such as shape, direction, and surface are manipulated to produce the best prototype. Each design can then be tested in cooking various types of food. Reading Between the LinesUsing this interactive resource from The Learning Federation, students can explore three of the more common types of vision problems: myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), and presbyopia. The resource allows students to compare effects of corrective lenses on reading at different distances. Students view a cross-section of the eye that illustrates focal variations causing each vision problem. Glossary terms, background information, and challenges to test and extend the student’s knowledge are also included. Far Out LensesUsing this interactive resource from The Learning Federation, students can simulate building a telescope using two convex lenses to look at the moon. Students first choose the focal length of the two lenses: the eyepiece lens and the objective lens. They can then move the objective lens to focus the telescope. The resource allows students to determine which lens pair produces the greatest and least magnification. Background information and glossary terms are also included. |

For Grade 4 and 5. This interactive digital resource supports elements of the Grade 4 and Grade 5 French as a Second Language Nine-Year Program of Studies. The Bonjour les amis! resource provides presentation, practice and production activities. Each scenario starts with an animation that presents new linguistic and cultural content. Follow-up activities involve listening and reading as well as pronunciation, writing, and speaking. Some activities include additional explanations and each scenario presents one or two production activities. Students may follow a suggested sequence or access activities in any order. This resource exposes students to a variety of French speakers and cultural content from different areas of Canada and from other French-speaking countries.

For Grade 5. This French language video shows young people from Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe and Dijon, France talking about where they live, the possessions that can be found in their homes, and their daily activities.
