Operating independently of the DTPS School Council is the Mission Heights Playground Society, chaired by Rob Eriksen. This group of hardworking individuals are rasing the funds necessary to provide playground equipment that may be used by DTPS students and the neighbourhood as well.
One of the TOP THREE questions we are asked at DTPS is "You have a brand new school, why the playground not paid for by the government of Alberta?". The short answer to that question is that when the Government of Alberta provides funds to school districts to construct new schools, they mandate that no funds are to be allocated to playground construction.
The fundraising for construction of school playgrounds is a task that has been heartily embraced by Derek Taylor Public School Parents, and our entire community is thankful for their efforts.
TO DATE we still require more funds to construct the playground we envision. We do have phase I of the playgound complete and have applied for the CFEP grant. We are hoping to get the next phase in the ground as soon as possible upon receiving more donations and any grant monies. If you are able to help with volunteer hours, organizing skills, or if you have the ability to make financial donations, please contact our playground chair - Jolene Nellis (jolene.nellis@yahoo.ca).
Playground Society minutes, updates, announcements, etc. will be posted to this site as well.
