At Derek Taylor School, we believe that maintaining the dignity of each person in all situations, is crucial to in order to develop responsible and caring members in our school community. Students will learn and recognize that their actions and choices have an impact on others.
Our goal is to build a caring school community, where staff, students, and parents will encourage, value and support one another in order to feel safe.
At Derek Taylor School, in order to meet our school goal of “Success for All”, we will strive to foster the 3R’s:
Students, staff and volunteers will interact with one another in a manner which is peaceful, safe and fosters courtesy and mutual respect. Training and reinforcement in responsible behavior will be provided for all students throughout the year. Staff will consistently encourage responsible behavior through positive interactions.
STUDENTS
Students at Derek Taylor School have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. With this comes responsibility. Students will:
- Treat themselves and others with respect
- Treat property with respect
- Take personal responsibility for their actions.
PARENTS
In order to provide a safe learning environment for all, we require the support of our school community parents. Behaviour expectations will be clearly communicated to all. Parents will be informed as the need arises, when a breach of the school rules occurs.
STAFF
Staff at Derek Taylor School have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. With this comes responsibility. Staff will:
· Treat students and parents with respect and will speak to them respectfully and calmly
· Share a written copy of their classroom discipline plan with students and parents.
· Acknowledge students when they are working appropriately and when quality work is produced.
· Ensure that conflicts between the teacher and student are resolved in private.
