Swanavon Montessori Program
Meaningful Math Learning

What is the Montessori Method?

Montessori is an approach to education with the fundamental belief that a student learns best within a   social environment that supports and respects each child's unique development.
Activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, physical coordination and cognitive preparation.

The Montessori Method is:

child-directed
individualized
hands-on with tactile materials
a process of exploration and discovery
centered on nurturing a natural curiosity and love of learning within a social environment

 Elementary Montessori Program

Swanavon offers an Elementary Montessori program for elementary students.  The program in 2012-2013 is offered for students ages six to nine (grades one through three).  The experience at this level extends the hands-on, individualized process of exploration and discovery. As the students adapt to the Montessori environment, their experiences as they get older, become more abstract.  Alberta Education curriculum is integrated into the Montessori curriculum at this level.

Students entering this program must have previous Montessori experience.  The minimum time pre-requisite in order to enter the Elementary Montessori program is six months experience in a Montessori Kindergarten.

This program is five full-days per week, 8:40 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
