THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMME IN THE

GRANDE PRAIRIE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM - Montrose Junior High School

All Montrose Junior High students in grades 7, 8, and 9 participate in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.  Students in the middle grades are face with a wide range of often confusing choices. The Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed to provide students with the values and knowledge that will help them to make good choices. From its beginning, the MYP has been guided by three fundamental concepts that are rooted in the IB mission statement. These three fundamental concepts are:

  • Holistic learning—representing the idea that all knowledge is interrelated and that the curriculum should promote the development of the whole person, whose attributes are described by the IB learner profile
  • Intercultural awareness—representing the idea that school communities should encourage and promote global thinking by engaging with and exploring other cultures, which is a key feature of international education evident in the IB learner profile
  • Communication—representing the idea that schools should encourage open and effective communication, important skills that contribute the international understanding as exemplified by the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

Related Information

The International Baccalaureate was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation.

Although the first IB schools were predominantly private international schools, today over half of all IB World Schools are state schools.

Carrying forward the ideals and dreams of the IB founders, the organization exists to provide high quality education for a better world, as expressed in our mission statement.

IB Programmes continue to encourage this international mindedness in students and educators through the IB learner profile; a set of values that represent our mission and principles.
