French Immersion

 Choose Second Language Learning!

With all of the benefits of knowing a second language, more and more parents are choosing to enrol their children in French Immersion.

The Grande Prairie Public School District offers a high quality French Immersion program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Entry into the GPPSD's French Immersion program occurs at Kindergarten or Grade 1 (Early Immersion) or Grade 5 (Middle Immersion). French Immersion is taught in a single-track setting at Ecole Parkside School in Kindergarten-to-Grade 6 and in a dual-track setting at Montrose Junior High (Grades 7-9) and the Grande Prairie Composite High School (Grades 10-12).

 Early Immersion

In Early French Immersion, all Alberta curriculum is taught in French until Grade 3, when English instruction begins.

Alberta achievement test results demonstrate that GPPSD French Immersion students in Grade 6 have consistently met or exceeded Alberta Education targets in all subjects, including English.

 NEW French Immersion Preschool

French language development is acquired through extensive exposure to the language and culture. The Grande Prairie Public School District and Ecole Parkside School are giving your child the chance at a head start!

Our French preschool program is a hands-on learning process that will help focus students' skills in order to prepare them for an academic French kindergarten.

Each class will be three hours long with either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday option. A maximum of 20 students will be registered per class on a first come, first served basis.

For more information, please contact Ecole Parkside School at 780-532-7429 or visit us at www.gppsd.ab.ca/school/parkside.
